
Dr. Ebenezer Beardsley

Born in 1746 in Stratfield (now Bridgeport) CT. He was one of 9 children of John and Martha Beardsley. His father was a blacksmith. He married Martha Phillips.
Dr. Beardsley served as a Surgeon's Mate in the 7th CT Regiment from July 1 to December 10, 1775, as a Surgeon in the 22nd Continental Infantry in 1776 and joined the 6th CT Regiment on January 1, 1777. He resigned on June 1, 1778 due to ill health.
He settled in Cheshire as a Physician and Apothecary. In 1779 moved to New Haven and opened an apothecary shop. He was one of the largest importers of drugs and medicine in the country and supplied apothecaries in NY. He served on the New Haven Council from 1784 - 1787. Dr. Beardsley was one of the founders and active supporters of the county medical society.

Yale awarded him an honorary degree in 1784 and he was admitted to the Society of the Cincinnati in 1786.
He and Martha had 6 children. He died on April 5, 1791 in New Haven. The family later relocated to Vermont.
